Reading your measurement

Every 24 hours, Needlz asks your buyer questions across the AI engines and records what came back: whether you were cited, who else was, and what sources the answers leaned on. This article is about reading that honestly.

The daily measurement

For each tracked question, in each of your markets, Needlz records whether your brand appears in the AI answer and which competitors do. Those raw observations roll up into the numbers on your dashboard: how often you are cited across your questions, how your share compares to the competitors you track, and how both are moving over time.

Where things live

The Overview is today's standing at a glance. The Questions view breaks it down per question — which ones you are winning, which ones cite competitors instead, and which cite nobody, which is often the best news on the page: an answer citing nobody is an answer still up for grabs. Trends is the time view: how citation share has moved since you started. Sources shows where the AI answers pull their material from — the communities and pages doing the citing — which is exactly where your replies and content should go. Competitors and Sentiment show who you are up against and how you are described where you do appear. Crawlability checks your own front door: whether AI crawlers can actually reach and read your website, and what to fix if they cannot.

Why the numbers move when you changed nothing

AI answers are not deterministic. Ask an engine the same question twice and you can get differently-worded answers citing different sources — that is a property of the engines, not a measurement error. Two consequences worth internalising: a single day's reading is weather, and the trend is the signal. Needlz measures daily precisely so that noise averages out and a real movement — your citation share climbing over weeks — stands out from the flicker. Judge your progress on the Trends view, not on any single morning.

What "winning" looks like

Citation visibility compounds slowly and then holds. Early on, expect movement on less competitive questions first. The healthy pattern is: your cited-rate rises on a few questions, your share-of-voice against tracked competitors stops falling, then climbs. Because measurement is live each day, history only accumulates while tracking runs — a gap cannot be reconstructed afterwards — so the streak itself is part of what you are building.
